Do you believe in the evolution of human consciousness?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for July 18, 2008:
I have never believed in belief. However, I do know that the process of the evolultion of human consciousness is a painfully slow process. The more consciously aware that I am the more that I actually notice that, at least in the sarcasm-based comedic aspect of the news media where it is more obvious and more truth is being told, humanity is evolving. Hence there is no need for belief. The challenge in my opinion is, the more evolved that a person is the more that they notice how unevolved everyone else appears to be. So, this evolution of human consciousness SEEMS TO BE useless in a world that appears to be so unconscious. The conscious people seem to go crazy as pointed out in the movie "Surfwise" where the dedicated father promises to teach his nine children the truth of actual/natural life and forsake the nonsense/stupidity of the average person's life. The problem is that the "enlightened" (and very physically healthy) children end up having a challenge dealing with life from a general societal perspective where their "wisdom" does not seem to really fit in very well hence there being a challenge to attempt to help human consciousness to evolve.
