Do you believe in God?

Posted on Feb 10th, 2008 by profundity : "Why-er" profundity
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for July 28, 2007:

Perhaps the better question is, "What is your DEFINITION of God?"

God appears to me to be a multiple-level or multiple-dynamic metaphor where each person may pay attention to a different aspect of God that is important to them personally.  So, for someone to say that they do not believe in God might mean that they do not really understand the true nature of God or perhaps they simply have a limited vocabulary.  For example, God can represent everything that is not understood.  In mathematics this would be an undefined variable.  God could also represent the infinitely-complex inter-relationship of everything with everything else, "Everything is related to everything else to different extents and in different intensities."  In other words, different things have different affects upon different other things differently.  If the specific relationship between two or more particular things is not understood then magic or wonderment enters the equation like looking at a rainbow and not understanding the science behind that visual effect or phenomenon.  The Sun poking "its head" through the clouds after a storm could metaphorically or anthropomorphically be said to be, "God looking down or shining His light upon us."  Logically speaking, if God exists for anyone then God DOES exist no matter what the definition.  If we each endeavor to explain our personal definitions of God then perhaps we will ALL get a better understanding of God?

Here is a story that might help demonstrate another aspect of God...

GOD WORKS IN THE ORDINARY

He [God] Himself has said, “I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5).

A devout Christian heard an urgent news report that a flash flood was coming to the peaceful valley where he lived. Immediately he went to his knees and prayed for safety. The rain kept coming down for several days when he suddenly became aware that water was gushing under his front door. He retreated to the second floor and looked nervously out of his window. A police boat, braving the waters, approached his house and asked him to get in the boat. He assured them that the Lord would save him. The water kept rising and he finally went up and out onto the roof of his house. While he sat on the roof praying, a helicopter hovered overhead and the pilot asked over the loudspeaker if they could lift him off. “It's not necessary since I have the Lord's protection,” he replied. Moments later the house began to break up and the man went to his death. Standing before the Lord, he asked, “Lord, I'm glad to be here, but why didn't You answer my prayer for safety? Why did you forsake me?” The Lord responded, “Son, I sent you a news report to tell you to get out of there. Then I sent you a boat AND a helicopter! What in Heaven's name were you waiting for?”

well, i would say that god is anything you worship, whatever you live for is your god. your god may not be the God i serve, but whatever you iolize is your god - so you can't really say you don't belive in a god, just that you don't belive in that God.

For me my God is Jesus Christ, i live to serve and to love Him.

Then perhaps we might get into the various and specific definitions of “Jesus Christ” and what He represents for different people. For example, if you break down the name of Jesus Christ into its literal transliteration of the Latin/Greek you go from Je Suis le Christos or “I AM the Christos” or “I AM that which is privileged to come forward or pass through” as in wisdom that has been filtered through cheesecloth to separate out the knowledge that is prejudiced by greed, anger, hate, sadness, etc. so that only “pure” wisdom results. Since the name “Jesus Christ” does not exist in the Bible in pre-English/German or pre-King James/Martin Luther versions you need to look at how the name came to be in existence. It was the French Templar Knights who assisted both Martin Luther and King James in their translations. The German language itself was codified or solidified by the Lutheran version of the Bible because Martin Luther needed to pick and choose between the many different dialects that existed in the various villages in that area of Europe at the time. Some people think that the name Jesus Christ is itself the “Holy Grael” or the esoteric/metaphoric container of Truth if you truly understand this concept. Then, the name of Jesus Christ has far more significance than simply that of a human being.

I tend to take a practical approach to the topic of God.  I created the word, “Practicalitivinity” which is a combination of the words practical and Divinity.  I was raised American Baptist had a LOT of Jewish and Catholic friends.  I learned Objectivism from Ayn Rand, Esoteric Chrisitanity from Gurdjieff, and Synergetics from Bucky Fuller.  In my mind's eye I never saw ANY difference between any of the various religions and/or wisdom-oriented philosophies.  It was like my brain automatically “deciphered” esoteric metaphor into realistic terms and meanings.  It literally hurt my heart to see people fight over what was to me ridiculous literal interpretations of supposedly “sacred” texts.  Their “dogmatic insanity” precluded me from explaining my understanding of things.  It was like the real me was invisible and in order to get along with people I felt like I had to “play dumb.”  In today's political realm it feels the same way.  Thank goodness for the ultimate evolution of concepts like “Integral Dialogue” and forum-oriented environments like GAIA.com.  And, thank goodness as well for someone like Barack Obama who has somehow managed to learn to verbalize enlightened “cross-over” explanations of some relatively complex concepts within the last six months.  I would not have thought twice about him prior to that.  I have since been moved to assist Mr. Obama whereas previously I have had absolutely no motivation what-so-ever to be involved in politics due to the obvious-to-me disconnection between vote and act.  For me, beyond all appearances, there was no such thing as democracy.  At least now I feel like there is someone who can explain “why” some activities of the “powers-that-be” (God/gods) are far too complex to be voted on by the lowest common denominator majority of the people and why the fascist-seeming “arms of God” NEED to be behind-the-scenes (unseen), people simply can't seem to understand the “true” meanings of the religious metaphors from the many different perspectives.  The average person appears to be totally unmotivated to transcend their “sins” (insane reasonings) because their brains hurt too much to think about paradoxical proclivities.  “The human world is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.”  Multiple layers of seemingly disconcerted phenomena.

“Father forgive them for they (truly) know not what they do.”  The human world is truly insane (don't know any better) and the people who come to understand this concept are, by their understanding, no longer “human.”  If these people are also free from greed, hate, anger, sadness, frustration, etc. then they are said to be divine and are depicted with glowing heads or have halos around their heads demonstrating “mini suns” or “suns of God.”

“PROOF” That God DOES Exist

Aside from the issue of some people denying the existence of God at all costs…  ;o)

You CAN prove to yourself that God actually exists and you can hear the word of God for yourself.  Obviously this depends upon each individual person's personal definition of God.  In the historical sense when people heard the word of God obviously they were hearing their own inner voices but without the understanding of how the brain actually worked they may not have recognized those voices.  Most people appear to have dysfunctional aspects of their personality that result in emotional expression such as greed, ego, fear, hate, anger, sadness, frustration, etc.  “God's voice” in the historical sense is, literally speaking, the aspect of one's own conscious awareness that is devoid or absent these dysfunctionaly reactive emotional dynamics.  In other words, God equals pure wisdom and it helps to train yourself to hear or listen to that type of wisdom.  Unfortunately most religions do not explain this concept very effectively in my experience because they seem to want to have it manifest magically or miraculously or whatever.  Perhaps they don't want people to know that they are tricking them, using hypnotic auto-suggestion, or otherwise psychologically influencing them so that they become better people?  Perhaps this is their way of helping people transcend or supercede the ego?

Okay, here is the proof…

Before you go to sleep at night you can ask yourself a question that you REALLY want to know the answer to.  Then, within several hours of waking up in the morning the answer will pop into your head.  This is effectively God speaking to you as if you had offered a prayer or some type of request to God.  This kind of thing can also work for finding your keys, a book, or remembering a childhood friend's name or legal citation.  The brain literally remembers everything that you have ever experienced or thought about and you can retrieve that information with this simple practice.

I have also experienced this situation while driving my car and having an idea that I wanted to write down but could not do so without putting myself in danger.  So, I repeated the idea to myself ten times and asked myself to remember to write it down when I was at or near my computer.  Sure enough, as soon as I saw my computer I remembered my previous thought.  If I have more than one thought then I tell myself how many thoughts that I had and this helps to trigger additional remembrances.
